Dragonfly Salon + Spa Sentio
(Behold Before and After shots of my visit to Dragonfly Salon and Spa Sentio)
Nothing gives a girl a confidence boost like getting her hair and makeup professionally done. And, nothing makes a girl more excited for a date than feeling confident. Sooooo….why not get your hair and makeup done before every date? Oh, because you don’t have the cash flow and/or time to do that? Well, neither do most of us. But, if you want to spring for the ultimate hair and makeup sesh before a special occasion, we have you covered: hair at Dragonfly Salon followed by airbrushed makeup at Spa Sentio. The best part: they’re right next door to each other in the White Provision building on the Westside.
I was in such dire need of a haircut that I’d been wearing my hair in a ponytail or messy bun for two weeks straight. I had almost forgotten what it looked and felt like to have it blow-dried and styled, so I was more than elated to pop into Dragonfly to visit my stylist, Beth, who is a master of the blow out (that’s a professional blow dry for you beauty novices). And, since I don’t wear a lot of makeup on a regular basis, it’s such a treat to get professionally made up before a big night out. Let’s recap: dire need of haircut, no makeup. Take a look at the Before picture above.
Yikes.
Looking like that, I definitely felt out of place in Dragonfly’s heavenly, all white, classic-meets-modern space on the hip Westside. But, in about an hour, Beth worked her magic on me (just a blow out without a hair cut takes even less time), and my hair felt like itself again, but better, since it had been done by a pro. As an added bonus (but, no big surprise), Dragonfly plays cool music – not cheesy instrumental and/or spa tunes. After a little Neon Trees and Sleigh Bells, I was ready to hit the town.
I bid Beth adieu, promised I wouldn’t wait another five months before I saw her again (yes, it had been that long), and walked around the corner of the building to Spa Sentio. Spa Sentio is Dragonfly’s “sister” and upon walking in, you can see the resemblance: posh white décor, upscale vibe, and trendy and attractive people.
I sat down with my makeup artist, Kelly, and explained that I don’t wear much makeup, so I wanted a “softer look.” She knew exactly what to do, going to town with light pinks and neutral colors, and, of course, the airbrushed foundation. For those of you unfamiliar with airbrushed makeup, it is literally sprayed on your face with an airbrush “gun” to give you a softer, less “cakey” look that lasts longer than normal foundation (by the end of the night, I realized it lived up to its reputation). Kelly beautified my face in only 30 minutes. Not only was I was truly impressed, but considered asking for an airbrush gun for Christmas.
Check out the After picture above. I was ready for my close-up….and big date that night.
