Recently, I watched the “A Woman’s Right to Shoes” episode of Sex and the City in which Carrie’s $485 Manolos go missing at a baby shower. Her unsympathetic friend, Kyra, offers to reimburse her only $200 because, in Kyra’s married-with-children opinion, spending $485 on shoes is both irresponsible and immature. Carrie reminds Kyra that she used to purchase expensive shoes not too many years ago when she was single; however, her comments fall on deaf ears as Kyra criticizes Carrie’s single lifestyle, suggesting Carrie has not grown up because she has not married.
